For a Liberty Kid, you actually want a reproduction Lunkenheimer or Essex style brass mixing valve instead of a modern carb. A lot of antique hit-and-miss engine restoration shops sell brand new brass ones. They run entirely off the vacuum from the intake stroke to pull fuel past a simple needle valve. Super simple setup.

I also dream of finding an engine like this. I love old nautical stuff. It might be possible to have the cylinder resleaved. Or have it bored and a sleeve installed. You should get an electric motor from a drill press or something that's belt driven and turn the motor over with a belt.
