I think Terminids are more similar to termites than ants, not only in appearance but in the name too, the fact that they use chemical weapons is also similar to Earth's termites, with some species having the ability to release a caustic spray, and others that can explode through a chemical reaction involving copper inside their abdomen, another thing is the nests, have you ever seen a termite mound? those things are huge and impressive, with chimneys for ventilation and airflow, kinda like the Terminids nests that are big and have multiple chambers, i also think that the theory of different colors representing the two different sexes of Terminids is really plausible, since unlike ants, termites are 50% males and 50% females, they even have a fat queen and king.

One single terminid spore is enough to destroy an entire planet

I feel like the bile spitter originally was not intended to use its acid as a weapon. Instead, it could be theorized that the reason the termininds bile spitter evolved was to allow it to dig tunnels more effectively by allowing the acid to corrode, loosen, and dissolve solid rock and tightly compacted dirt.

Fun fact, the bugs may not even be actual bugs. When you are on a cold planet they have a breath, meaning they breathe through lungs. Also since they aren‘t dying of heat and or freezing of cold implies a mechanism to keep them warm/cold. You know, like sweating or your own body heat

Actually showing the 3D models makes this the best video on the subject of Terminid physiology.

When it's comes the the hive guards, I've seen them come out of bug holes, and when I tried to get an angle on the the bug hole it mirrored my movement blocking my LOS. I've seen these bugs move in such a defensive manner many times usually to cut me off from taking advantageous angles. So they do actually use their traits as intended.

Something that isn't mentioned is an interesting behavioral pattern the bugs tend to show that I and my usual team have seen rather frequently, that being that they'll make a "threat display" to warn you away from them before attacking. this seems to indicate they have a "personal space bubble" of sorts that all of them have, that varies from tier to tier. The lowliest seem to be the most tolerant, while larger bugs are noticeably easier to provoke. They seem to regard a range of actions as provocation, such as simply approaching them or doing anything perceived to be hostile, be it directly attacking them, shooting in their general direction, throwing beacons or explosives going off near them. Warriors and their derivatives in particular seem to get real angry real quick if you don't back off near-immediately.

Displays include scavenger-types raising themselves to appear taller, warrior-types making vocalizations, and hunters flaring their wings, with patrol members all turning to face the perceived threat while making these displays. If you abide by what is essentially their demand to go away, the most they do is go to where they last saw you as if to make sure you're actually gone. If you've cleared off or otherwise moved far enough away, they won't press the matter further and will go about their business. Sometimes they don't even bother to go to where they last saw you, instead opting to ignore you once you've broken "visual" contact. This is a contrast to the illuminate and bots who will make a point to pursue you quite a ways (especially jetpack overseers and voteless) or open fire on you, even if you choose not to engage.

However if they're called to repel an intruder they skip the threats, and if you run right into them, attack them or otherwise ignore their threats, they will eventually make "aggression" displays, typically splaying front limbs or other structures briefly (such as the face frills and wings on hunters and pouncers) raising their rear in the case of scavenger-types, and rearing up and roaring before advancing.

My impression of the Terminids is that they are not real bugs. Rather their true form is an extremely mutagenic species of fungus. Their infestation of other worlds and colony building is nothing like any kind of insect species. Instead, the Terminids spread by dusting planets with spores that create mold-like growths over the land and the bugs themselves are just animated bodies that perform tasks to assist in spreading this mold, like "scavenging" for more resources, waging war against competitors, and guarding their biomass from incursion.

Their endgame structures like Spore Spewers are even mushroom-shaped which cannot be an accident.

I have a few notes from my observations and knowledge on lore.
1. Shriekers without their wingspan factored in are smaller than hunters, giving me the impression that shriekers and hunters are two branches of pouncer evolution.
2. While there is no unit called charger in helldivers 1, there is a unit called tank that charges and evolves into a behemoth unit that charges. This means the charger genes come pre-war and not through Super-Earth engineering.
3. Hive guard behavior is very different from chargers but it is similar to impalers. They both bunker down in defense. Brood commanders charge and have similar head designs to chargers. They seem to branch into chargers if they suffer a lot of head trauma stimuli preventing specialization into intellect.
4. The front crab like limbs probably assist in feeding as the increasing head armor would limit the mouths access to direct feeding.
