  FYI, The Samaritans is a charity organization staffed by volunteers that offers a phone service for people feeling suicidal. So the joke was that because Basil can&apos;t get through to the Samaritans, he has to find other ways of surviving the day.

  I’m Dutch but still use Manuel’s expression “ I know nothing, I’m from Barcelona “. Also a very popular series in the Netherlands and this episode was really number one 😂.

  I was 14 when this episode first aired. Next day in school, every question from the Teacher was greeted with the answer &quot;I know nothing&quot; in our best Manuel voices. 😃

  John Cleese and Joan Sanderson were friends, and he specifically wrote the role of Mrs. Richards in Fawlty Towers with her in mind. <br>Despite Sanderson&apos;s reluctance to play the part, due to the character&apos;s unpleasantness, which contrasted with her own personality, Cleese convinced her to take the role. <br><br>He was delighted with her performance and considered it his favorite episode of the series.

  &quot;is this a piece of your brain?&quot; during rehearsal, andrew sachs (the man who plays manuel) noticed how that line was suddenly missing. confused, he asked cleese why the line has vanished. cleese had decided that the line was too silly and so he removed it. but sachs protested, insisting that the line was brilliant and it should be put back in. cleese accepted and so we can all thank sachs for his contribution to the writing here.
