12 Things You Didn't Know About PHEASANT Reproduction

Forget docile backyard poultry; the pheasant hides a raw and biologically hostile reproductive mechanic that many breeders completely ignore. If you are experiencing abandoned eggs, lost clutches due to hidden infanticide, or uncontrolled aggression from males, you are dealing with a wild instinct that sabotages your breeding pen from the inside out. The pheasant's metabolism enforces strict, highly technical rules in the yard. Hens deploy a sinister nest parasitism by infiltrating foreign nesting boxes to deceive other birds, while overstimulated males suffer volatile testosterone spikes that trigger mating cannibalism if proper visual obstacles are not provided. Morphologically, their eggs pack a dense olive-green shell armor designed to act as a natural barrier blocking ultraviolet radiation. However, the most destructive biological danger lies in imprinting damage: delegating incubation to standard broody hens permanently warps the chick's visual identity, programming unstable future breeders that will ruin your pureline genetics forever. Understanding deep biology and elite genetics in ornamental gamebirds separates a simple hobbyist from an expert producer.
