ATTENTION: I need to make a correction when it comes to the footage at Negril in 82. The footage with the checkered floor was not Negril. That was the Bronx Library. Right after that a caption comes on the screen that says Negril 82, and you notice that has a black floor. The rest of that footage is from Negril, and not the opening footage with the checkered floor. Thanks to Mr. Freeze for pointing that out.

I was 10 when the Blackout hit in July of 1977 growing up in the Bronx running wild with my crew. I fell in love with the Culture EARLY! Flash, ColdCrush, Wiz Kid & so many others were like Superheroes to us. I got so many beatings & punishments from going to the TConnection, Cedar Park, wherever there was a Jam or party! We didn’t have a name for it yet…we just called it The Sure Shot Jam!! Thanks for this  Documentary🔥🔥🔥 Peace

My exposure to hip hop was through my Uncle Joe who was a football star in High School and always sported pony sneakers in the hood back in the day. He always had the hottest cassette tapes like the 1st Run DMC record, Whodini, and all of the Jonsun crew, Africa Bambaataa, Globe & Wiz kid Tommy Boy records, and some Tom Tom Club - Genius of love, Island records on 45 and maxi single 12'. I remember MC Shy D - I gotta be tuff with we don't play maxi single 12" and Smurf rock in my family's collection when I was coming. I borrowed 8 ball and MJG - on the outside looking in cassette tape from a guy in band class in High school and played it to death until I got tired of it and gave it back to him. I didn't get into hip hop until I saw Juice and Above the Rim at the movie theater and then 2pac blew UP and he revolutionized the rap game with Me against the World and he burned UP the billboards with that record. If it wasn't for 2pac, I would have never got into hip hop.

I was a 14yr old B-Boy back in the 80s and this brings back so many memories. Hip Hop, Breakdance, Graffiti, DJ and Emcee became my Culture of choice. To witness the Birth of Hip Hop was incredible. Being an active participant has been phenomenal ✌️Peace
