After hearing the album Freak Out in '66, especially "Help I'm a Rock/ It can't happen here", as a teenager I was hooked (along with Absolutely Free).
What a shame that he passed in his 50s.

I had The Mothers' Freak Out album and they came to San Diego(then a very conservative town)in '68 or '69. Their venue was suddenly canceled and Zappa couldn't find another. So he rented an empty garage floor at a big hotel and did it there. It was perfect. You walked around pillars in the minimalist atmosphere to change your view. If only there were a video of that.

The best concert I saw by them was in '71 with Flo and Eddie at a university auditorium. It was based on albums Just Another Band from LA and Live At Fillmore East. Funny and spectacular.

So lucky to see the original MoI on the release of their 2nd LP Absolutely Free at Fairleigh Dickinson college in Madison NJ. No one I knew would buy their 1st so I knew it would be good and grabbed it.

They had everything back then - music, cameras & lite shows.

I, first saw The Mothers at The Royal Albert Hall, London in 1967, saw them again twice at The Royal Festival Hall in 1968, think I saw them again in 1969! But, saw them in 1970 at both The Bath Festival and then again with Steven Stills at The London Coliseum. Good memories. Thanks for posting this. Roy Wilbraham
