A lot of these are absolutely there for the parents. You mentioned those shows you had to sit through on repeat for the kids, and how difficult that was :p - Whereas with all these easter eggs, it's great

You can see some of these adult jokes are so obvious. But that magazine with women with clothes on—the guy said, "eww don't need to see that." In this Squidward joke with a rope, they deleted the scene and edited it to make him get a pet bird or, in this case, a clam.
