  I started adding some DIY off grid solar to my house just for the experience and fun and I am so happy I did. It has worked flawlessly powering one end of my house for 3 years now. I can add on anytime I want. There is so much support online that will make it pretty easy. The cost between DIY or hiring a solar company is MASSIVE.

  As a roofer&apos;s wife, I just got a bunch of solar panels, micro-inverters, and the inverter from the side of someone&apos;s house for this exact reason. The roofers don&apos;t reinstall the solar, and only uninstall if he gets to keep what he takes off! The homeowner said DEAL, take it all with you when you go.

  As a finance guy <br><br>You only make so much money throughout your life to pour into retirement so ANYTHING that prevents you from having to refill an emergency fund or actually pays itself off in any way is worth it

  this breakdown is super helpful! pointing out that grid-tied systems actually go down when the power goes out is a massive reality check that most people miss. also totally agree on skipping 24v and lead acid entirely. going straight to 48v lifepo4 with a solid eg4 all-in-one unit seems like the best way to scale up without wasting ur money. grate tip on those ballast roof mounts too!

  i started out small.. with what i could find locally that i could afford.. i have had my solar system now for several years. I lost track of how much money it saved me over the years.. start small and keep adding.. worked for me very well.
