I'm not totally sure why, but this was one of the tingliest videos you've ever done. I really enjoyed watching it and will probably enjoy multiple more listens while I have it on in the background of some boring tasks. Thank you!

Italy has never thought to leave EU. Some political parties talked about this possibility, but it has never been a concrete option

Yes Switzerland joined Schengen, but not the Customs Union, so we could still be checked randomly, but it's rare, I think they only stop cars when they notice suspicious behavior.
Honestly to me the agreement that Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein have with EU is the best solution. You keep your sovereignty yet you can strike deals that benefit the economy. For many people the EU has gotten too political and meddles with things it shouldn't. In addition national politicians use it as an excuse to do nothing because 'it's something that needs to be dealt with on a European level' 🙄

On that other point; Spain not recognizing other countries is partly because of their own situation with Catalunya. They did recognize Palestine though, so there's that.

Here is two long shots in the EU discussion that wasn't mentioned - Canada and Marocco.

Morocco officially applied to join the European Communities (the precursor to the EU) in July 1987. The application was promptly rejected. The rejection was based on geographic criteria stating that only European states are eligible for membership, a rule set under the Treaty of Rome and later the Copenhagen criteria.

And now we see a similar discussion with Canada. I belive we will see arguments that EU is not only based on Europe geography. Cyprus is actually on the asian plate but counts as a europeen country. Canada as Australia and New Zeeland has historical and culture connections to Europe - the same argument Marocco used when they tried to join.

We have seen Australia join the Eurovision - maybe EU is the next step for some of the west democratic countries outside Europe 😉🤷‍♂️
