  1. &nbsp;Read your owners manual. &nbsp;They walk you through most routine maintenance tasks.<br>2. &nbsp;Buy a shop manual! &nbsp;Yeah, they’re kinda pricey, but think of it in terms of how many hundreds of dollars you’ll spend on simple maintenance. &nbsp;Haynes manuals are great too. &nbsp;Lots of great pictures and details.

  Only reason I&apos;m bringing my bike into a mechanic this time is because I still have a warranty on it.

  I would add chain &amp; sprocket maintenance and replacement to this list. And oil and filter replacement. Air filter. Check tire pressures, tread depth.

  I do pretty much everything on my bikes, when I rebuilt my commando I respoked my front wheel and sent it out to be trued and did my own frame paint/ engine build and g/box. Sent out rear brake drum for machining and new shoes. Fully built my wife’s triumph. And do everything on my Harley . That’s how I afford to have bikes. Buy a manual, costs about 1/2 hour of dealer time lasts forever😊

  If I had to pay a shop for all the minor to moderate skill maintenance I do on my bike, I couldn&apos;t afford to have it. &nbsp;I enjoy the tinkering with it and always learn something new about it. &nbsp;Those times just doing a deep clean are when you see the lose or missing nut, the crack, the low looking tire. &nbsp;Your bike is so much more than 2 wheel transportation, &nbsp;you should get to know it. &nbsp;Spend the money saved on up-grades you put on yourself.

  I do all my own bike maintenance. Most jobs are straight forward if you have some basic mechanical skills.

  I do all the work myself, at one time &nbsp;I had to rebuild my rear caliper. It worked well after doing that.

  Carry spare fuses. With all the electronics it could save your ride. Also wrap some electrical tape somewhere on the bike or even a screwdriver shaft. I carry a spare clutch cable in the saddlebags.
