This is hardly a new problem. Same also on Martha's Vineyard: homes and even lighthouses have been moved more than once due to cliff erosion.

They don’t deserve to be protected from the ocean. You take your chances living there. I’ve been there. It seemed odd to me, dangerous even, cliff so close. It was yrs ago and the cliff was not that close.
