  Back in the day (3 years ago tops) I used to work at a bar, and some guy came in at a really early hour, sat with the bartender, talked for a while and then moved to another table, after a while and a few whiskies he called me over to ask me to send a text for him bc he couldn't see well anymore and after approving the text he gave me the equivalent of my week shift in tips, vibed another while, paid, gave everyone else in staff a tip, cook and manager included and just left, that was fun

  My codependent abusive mother once offered me $100 to stay home from work. She just didn't want to be alone. We are low-contact now.

  The medical practice I work for recently got bought out by a corporation since the doctor will be retiring in a few years. They’re being really strict about making sure we get all our hours, or they will take away pto and all other benefits. We had a meeting with the doctor, who is still our boss technically, and he said he doesn’t care how we get our hours, as long as we’re in the building, so if we need an “extra 15 minutes” on the clock a few days a week, he “sees and knows nothing” so basically giving us a pass to milk our time because he’s already fed up with this corporate office and our pay no longer comes from him lol

  working night shift right now. i can absolutely attest that night shift techie is right on the money. it's isolating and miserable, which is why there's a differential. it's not so you feel like it's worth it, they keep the differential so you have something keeping you from leaving.

  About 20 years ago, I was an assistant at a recording studio that did voiceovers. One of the talent was late, and the session was about to start. The engineer needed someone to help test the microphone. The line was simply "How do I get paid?" I said those words a few times, accenting different words each time. The producer said "Sounds good to me. Let's just pay this guy." They wrote me a check for $50. $10 per word!

  I was an audio engineer and some guy asked how much I’d take to let his buddy mix on the console in a bar. <br><br>He paid me $600 and it was the quickest amount of money I’d ever been paid

  Its amazing how a great manager and a great team can turn a mundane job into a &quot;I&apos;m getting paid for this?&quot;<br>All the work gets done super fast, and done right the first time at that. We take work from other facilities after that, get it done super fast. Clean up by halfway thru the shift.<br><br>At that point, all the work is done, so the manager lets us do whatever we want. Want to game on your Steam Deck, you do that. Work on mapping for D&amp;D campaign, boss asks how they handled last weeks trapped hallway.<br><br>And its all sanctioned by upper management. In the past they were burned hard when they insisted on sending employees home early when the work was done, meaning we weren&apos;t there when an emergency happened. We can do whatever we want after the work is all done, so long as no one takes advantage of it.<br><br>We can go home early if we *want*, but I rather stay at work and get paid to do what I would have been doing at home.

  My moment is happening right now. <br><br>After 25 years in the food-service industry, almost all of it spent in fast food in FOH, and much of that in a drive-through, I was stress, burnt out, and depressed. So when my last job started messing with my pay, and I knew it was time to leave, I started looking at my options.<br><br>I wanted to stay in food-service. I have mild mental disabilities, and they make it very difficult for me to to anything besides food or retail. Food is what I know best. I&apos;m good at it. And believe it or not, I enjoy it. When it&apos;s not eating my soul, lol.<br><br>But I couldn&apos;t keep doing the drive-through thing day in and day out. Dealing with customers, and horrible managers, was destroying my mental health. And standing in one place for 6 hours straight was hard on my body.<br><br>I found a job as a dishwasher in a sit-down restaurant. It&apos;s a small, local company, not a big corporation. All I do now, all night, is wash dishes, and a little food prep on the side.<br><br>I don&apos;t have to deal with customers. At all. Ever. I don&apos;t have to wear a headset. I don&apos;t have to sweat over a grill. <br><br>I can listen to music or YouTube videos, like this one, all night long while I work. I can take a smoke break, or a 15 minute bathroom break, whenever I want. I can check my phone, like I am now. The managers never bother us back here. <br><br>As long as I keep my dishes caught up, and get out on time every night, which I do, my managers don&apos;t much care at all what else I do back here.<br><br>Plus, it&apos;s always calm and laid back in the dish pit, even when we&apos;re swamped out front. <br><br>And even when there ARE a lot of dishes, and I&apos;m going nonstop, I don&apos;t mind. It&apos;s like playing Tetris, fitting the dishes in the racks. I just get in my rhythm, just me and my thoughts. <br><br>I love it.<br><br>And my managers and coworkers love me. We all get lots of positive reinforcement.<br><br>It&apos;s been the best move I&apos;ve ever made. My mental health is better than it&apos;s been in years, my knees and ankles don&apos;t hurt nearly as much, and I&apos;m happier than I&apos;ve ever been.<br><br>No, it&apos;s not glamorous. No, it&apos;s not high-paying. But it&apos;s the best job I&apos;ve ever had. <br><br>And sometimes I still can&apos;t believe I was lucky enough to find it. <br><br>Sometimes I still can&apos;t believe I get paid to do such an easy, fun, chill, enjoyable job!

  I work as a Media Attendant at a school. I am in charge of making all the copies teachers need, managing supplies for classrooms, and managing the printers. The job can be very busy out of nowhere, but other times I am just sitting at my desk waiting for work. During those times I do some college work and listen to reddit threads. I even have all the same holidays the kids get off. If I got paid just $2 more, I would say forget it to my degree and stay here.

  It&apos;s surprising how much random crap ends up in a supermarket. Always knew when it would happen as they had buy one get one free Nos. Luckily as a cashier never had to clean it myself but did make sure the bagger stuck with that duty had an energy drink and the lion&apos;s share of day old donuts.<br><br>Remember one where it got trailed by a cart through the entirety of the pharmacy section. I wondered how that happened and had a coworker later refuse an alcohol sale. Someone had urinated at the self checkout. Didn&apos;t even notice it. It was a sobering experience working there at times but Santa was the best manager.

  I started working in the Keno department of a Nevada Casino in 1980, when everything was manual. This was before any other state nearby had lotto or any gaming. We had people who had been playing every possible iteration or combination of spots/bets in keno for years. After I learned the game and the formulas needed to figure out particular tickets, I realized that this game was nothing but math puzzles. I worked puzzles all day, and I was very good at it. In about 1988 or 89, they finally &quot;computerized&quot; the live game. Well, that killed the fun. All the older players who knew the game would have to split their tickets up and pay more per bet all to possibly make only a partial part of their original bets. Between that and lotto &amp;/or gaming starting in other states, keno was now just a cashier&apos;s job, and I moved departments. Basically, for about 8 years, I was paid to work math puzzles, receive and pay bets. Great job.
