  Not street smarts but I used to fly a lot as a teenager. This is from 15 years ago, but:<br><br>- Keep your head down. If people are yelling, confirm whether it&apos;s an emergency without looking up or directly at them. If there&apos;s alarms and emergency lights/sirens, follow the crowd. If not, avoid the crowd and find a quiet corner.<br>- Don&apos;t talk to anyone. As a young teenage girl, I was a prime target; sticking to the guards or front desks means people can see you and know where you are. Confirm with the receptionist immediately and sit where she/he can see you, it&apos;s a lot harder to go &apos;missing&apos; when people know who and where you are and where you&apos;re going.<br>- If you get lost, find someone in uniform. Most of the military guys, police, and flight attendants/pilots I talked to were willing to guide me back to my terminal and make sure I boarded safely before going to their own flights. <br>- Don&apos;t make eye contact with people you don&apos;t know. You have no idea how their day is going, they might pick a fight with a weaker-looking teenager in a strange place if they think you&apos;re vulnerable. <br>- Always have an exit plan and 50-100$ tucked into a hiding place. If you need to run, it&apos;s better to call a taxi or an uber and send the trip info to your parents / family so they know where you are. Most kids go missing when nobody knows where they went or what their plans were. My dad knew exactly where I was at all times.<br>- Be confident. If your head is up, you know where you&apos;re going, and you look like you&apos;re confident, people won&apos;t mess with you as much. You look like a bad target and too much effort to mess with.<br>- Keep an emergency whistle in your pocket, or something similar. Loud noises dissuade creeps and kidnappers from trying to grab you in an occupied space. The louder you are, the less of a target you become. <br><br>There&apos;s more but I haven&apos;t traveled since high school, so I&apos;ll just leave this off by saying I&apos;m not an expert, I just traveled a lot over the years when I was young. Unaccompanied minors are closely watched by airport staff, but it&apos;s still possible for something to go wrong.

  Wear glitter, make glitter pepper spray or just bring some glitter with you all the time, in case you go at first dates or stuff like that. Glitters as we know are extremely difficult to get out of anything, and each manufacturer make them differently, they’re like the object version of digital prints. There is no way of lying out glitters.

  When crossing the road as a pedestrian, always do it as fast as possible (I’m talking full-on sprint) and if someone calls out to you, even someone you know, don’t hesitate or pause or turn around.<br><br>As a kid, I was with my mom at a road crossing that had two directions - one straight ahead and one to the left. They both switched to the walk signal at the same time, and I had my head in the clouds, so when my mom said “okay, go” I ended up taking the wrong direction. My mom yelled at me to come back, so I paused in the middle of the road all confused. But the walk signal was abnormally short, and a huge ass pickup truck started driving and another pedestrian grabbed me by my arm and forced me to sprint the rest of the way to the sidewalk (to the side I was not supposed to be on). I could have died.<br><br>Moral of the story: never trust that the walk signal on crosswalks will last a normal amount of time. Therefore: sprint the whole way and do not stop under any circumstances. If you’re going the wrong way, commit. You can always cross back to where you need to go at the next walk light, those few extra minutes aren’t worth your life if a car isn’t paying attention and doesn’t care/notice you still in the road.

  &quot;You can laugh about a false alarm later.&quot; Exactly.<br><br>My dad&apos;s advice to me on weapons: if you carry pepper spray, be serious about it. Get a practice canister and <b>actually practice</b> with it. Additionally, practice covering your face with one hand while you activate the spray with your other hand. If you carry a knife, practice slashing rather than stabbing. It&apos;s easier to block a stab than a slash, and most people expect a stab anyway. Get that muscle memory in place before you need it.
