You didn't mention that the pot that you make it in can't be aluminum, or that vinegar can nuteralize a splash of lye on the skin, rubber gloves, and that lye can make you blind it it gets in your eyes, and the fumes are harmful to the lungs.

My mom and her friend Dorothy were my 3rd grade moms. They would come in and help my teacher with projects. Dorothy was a farm wife who decided we needed to learn to make lye soap. It was a trip. Later we used decals and gold paint to take fancy Sweetheart soap and turn them into keepsakes for our mothers as Christmas gifts. Extra credit projects were creating poster boards of raw spices. Those were the days of a great education with great teachers and parents.

Plant soapwort seeds, it’s organic and cuts grease. It’s used for bathing, dishes, and laundry. It bypasses the harmful chemicals.

I like the end where you casually mention a gallon of lye and fat. You know how much it takes to get a gallon of tallow or lard from scraps? It's a lot. An example, I made tallow recently from a very large brisket with a very thick fat cap on it that I trimmed and that amounted to only 2 cups of tallow. It may be simple, but quantities of fat aren't as easily as achieved without access to livestock (if you're thinking SHTF). If you do it now, you might be able to get scraps from a butcher.

Forgot to mention that you have to use fresh eggs. As old eggs will float. <br>To check if your eggs are still good, put em in cool water. Fresh eggs will sink and lay on their sides. Eggs that are still ok will sink to the bottom but will stand up. But if those eggs float & breach the surface of the water throw em out.

Great video , I never truly understood soap until your easy breakdown … it’s something I’ve been wanting to make myself but never been sure it was so simple although I knew fat was involved somehow

Real soap is basically boiling animal fat, or another fat and lye as well as anything that makes it smell good. Also shampoo made natural is made from soap plants.
