  This film is at least 12 years old. HMS Illustrious was decommissioned in 2014.

  I was on this deployment. Some<br>old faces and great people that I have lost contact with, It brings back some great memories, I would do it all over again.

  Sitting here in May 2026 with zero connection to the armed forces and yet I feel an enormous pride and gratitude that our young men and women are prepared to give up normal life to protect us .

  With my time in the RAAF despite being a devout and practicing atheist, I had a great relationship with a Catholic priest. &nbsp;He was always about for a chat when you needed one, and would seem to appear when you really needed one. &nbsp;After my time was up we kept up the relationship, including when he retired and ultimately passed.<br><br>He was just a wonderful person.

  In 1980, the Royal Navy had 79 armed fighting vessels. Today, it only has 25 armed fighting vessels, but has 29 active service Admirals. More officers than ships

  It&apos;s good to see a navy where the crew aren&apos;t wearing blue camouflage uniforms. The USN used to be like that.

  It&apos;s always good to see how the Royal Navy lives. It reminds me as to why I joined the Royal Air Force. It&apos;s all about &apos;stars&apos;.<br>The Navy navigate by them.<br>The army sleep under them.<br>The RAF rates their hotels by them. <br>😊😊😊

  When I was in the Navy we had a guy go UA (unauthorized absence) as we pulled out of a liberty port. Following a thorough search of the ship, it was determined he was onshore. The delay in ship operations resulted in quite the punishment enforced. I myself had been through a couple disciplinary hearings over the course of my 8 yrs—often the process itself (especially getting yelled at by a board of chief petty officers) is a deterrent in and of itself.
