  We as pilots always fly the great circle when flying long distances. At times, land routes are preferable. However, SF to Honolulu is entirely over water; Honolulu to Guam is the same. It’s a great circle route, but there are no land escape routes.<br><br>There….I saved you 12 mins and the annoying piano plinking.

  As a retired Flight Attendant. I learned this in Training School 50 years ago! YIKES!!! That’s along time ago 😅😅😅😅😅<br>Watching from the coast of Georgia. Beautiful!

  Am a pilot and have flown literally hundreds of times across the Pacific from Australia to the USA.<br>Your story is incorrect, inaccurate, lacks accountability and besides, the headline map is the Atlantic Ocean and not the Pacific!

  I always thought the curved routes on flight maps meant the plane was taking a longer way around, but the great circle explanation makes so much more sense now. It’s funny how something that looks completely wrong on a flat map can actually be the shortest route in the real world. Makes you look at those flight maps differently
