There's a huge weeping Redbud planted as a memorial almost 10 years ago in the full sun at my county pool. I'm amazed at how good it looks given the dubious quality of the county maintenance crews. Planted right in the grass area, it's big enough to get up under it. I'm betting more than one child has found the secret spot. I've noticed the Rising Sun variety tends to be short lived, they snap in storms in the south if not in a protected space. I've got one Barberry I dug out of the roadside, obviously a volunteer. In north Georgia I see way more Euonymous volunteers than Barberry.

I like your videos, Jim, because you're always realistic about how big a plant will get. Like you mentioned, sometimes the tags aren't accurate. Before I buy anything, I check to see if you and Steph have done a video on it, you're an excellent resource for researching plants.

Well, though recently retired, I'm thinking my plant obsession may require a part- time job to sustain it lol. These videos give me too many ideas! Happy weekend gardening!

I just purchased the Garden Gem Amethys Redbud (the last tree you spoke about in this video) yesterday at HD. I had no idea it was a new introduction. I just saw a beautiful heart shaped leaf tree and I knew I had to have it. Lucky me. Thanks for sharing.

On H.aspera “burgundy bliss”, PlantDelights says it was renamed Plum Passion, but the original cv name is 'Koki'

I’ve been watching for many years and Jim’s recommended screening shrubs (loropetalum, osmanthus, Olive Martini elaeagnus, and Sunshine ligustrum in particular) are the ones that have withstood seasons of difficult weather, watering neglect, etc. Really solid and tough shrubs! <br>Carolina Midnight has to be one of my absolute favorites.

Very true about Ruby Loropetalum. I have several 20 foot tall Rubys that clearly did not read the tag.
