  As someone who had a Forester XT with the original engine, turbo and drivetrain with 240,000 hard miles, not skimping out on maintenance is essential. The previous owner was super meticulous and everything that he replaced were either quality parts or upgrades. These aren't Toyotas where you can skip an oil change or two!

  I feel like I won the lottery with my 2008 nonturbo Forester that I just bought from a guy whose entire family are Subaru fanatics. He had 3, inherited a 4th and sold one to me because he only keeps 3 at a time. He works in the service department of a Subaru dealership. When the heads were leaking, he did a &quot;while I&apos;m at it&quot; job and sent the heads to a machine shop to be resurfaced, valve guides and seals replaced and pressure tested. At the same time, he did a complete tune-up including plugs, coil packs, water pump, thermostat, both radiator hoses, coolant, timing belt and accessory belts with new pulleys and tensioners. <br>It has no rust, no leaks and sounds perfect with over 217k miles on it. <br>The Gen 2 is my favorite model.

  Most hoods have a service position for the hood prop. Typically it’s lower so the hood will stand in near vertical position.
