SO relieved y'all are down with the more simplified style and tone. This feels way more sustainable and I had a ton of fun making this. 💪 It's really good to be back.
Patreon for those who are interested! https://www.patreon.com/c/CarlosMaza

I had almost completely forgotten about Stefan Molyneux, and that realization fills me with indescribable joy.

In the beforetimes, we used to be in human-curated digital spaces, with mods who'd generally be willing to kick off people who were habitually disruptive to the space they were in. We would "deplatform" the trolls, so to speak, and life would continue. But in the modern era of large corporate-controlled, algorithmically curated platforms we all now inhabit, the mods are essentially non-existent, except to enforce copyright claims (because of course they care more about property rights than they do people.) It takes a lot, and I mean a lot, more effort and offenses now to kick the disruptors out of the space, because the platform owners are more or less unwilling to do it until things get so egregious they can't ignore it anymore.

"You are fucking up the vibe."
Said in such a calm, yet firm and authoritative tone seems like such a direct way to let a stranger know they need to take a step back.

What I find richly ironic about these post-prominence 'careers' is it becomes clear that their success was not due to 'the free marketplace of ideas' but that they were propped up and enabled by algorithms that boosted them more than they deserved by prioritizing engagement over quality. Without that algorithm pushing their bullshit, they simply can't compete. They cannot compete in actual 'free marketplaces.'

The guy trying to quote "first they came," flubbing his words, and then leaving it in the video sent me into space.

Hank Green talks about something he calls the "Sad Gap" where people get depressed when they find out about all the bad stuff in the world... that the algorithm happily pushes. Later after you dive into a topic, you find out all the good people working on research and solutions, and feel better and more hopeful. This video is making me feel hopeful that we can do something about these awful influencers and it'll have an impact.

To quote Ian Danskin, "You can't legislate All evil."
But that doesn't mean legislation against what evil we can doesn't make life better.

Fun note about Alex’s Jones’s recent deplatforming, The Onion got the rights to all the branding for Info Wars and now the show lives on as a parody of itself
