From a person who has lived in both: if you want to change the world; if you're talented, ambitious, educated; if you love the outdoors and variety; if you want to be around the best and the brightest; California's the place. If your life's ambition is to have a 3000 sq ft house with constant climate control, have 2.5 kids, be 3rd accountant from the left at AT&T, and look forward to eating at Chili's on the weekend, Texas is for you.

Born and raised in California. I need to take more advantage of our national parks and beaches and what not.

The state of California used to have a system of universities that had free tuition for California residents. Who changed it? Ronald Reagan.

I was born and raised in Texas. I spent 14+ years in southern California, then moved back to Texas. I miss Cali. If it were more affordable, I would move back.

All of coastal CA has mild summers and mild winters, not "cold winters" as you say.

I moved to Texas from Hawaii 20+ years ago. I stayed about a year before moving to California and have never looked back.

I’ve lived in Houston, Austin, and Los Angeles. The weather difference is dramatic and undeniable. Where I lived in Texas is hot humid, and uncomfortable most of the time. And full of giant bugs. Except when it’s freezing or flooded, of course. Austin or maybe San Antonio would be wonderful if California fell into the sea. Until then, happy in Los Angeles. B

Californians, we really need to increase education funding. We need to be equal to New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts with a strong K-12 system.

When my husband retired from working in construction (union) his whole life, I worked a little but usually stayed home with our 5 kids, we sold our outer bay area home, 1800 sq ft, 4 bed 3 bath, lot size ant 5600, for about $864k as is and it needed A LOT of work. Actually it was a sale through the same real estate office, so it never went on the MLS. We moved to the foothills of the Sierras where we bought a house on 1.7 acres, 2900 sq ft, 4 bed 2 1/2 bath, in beatiful condition, for $480k. In the Bay Area I was an hour away from the beach and even closer to mountains and wild areas. Here we are in a forest of pines, oaks, and cedars. We see deer and turkey almost every day, got just a little snow last winter and Tahoe is 1.5 hrs away, the Sierras are all around and we live within an hour of Sacramento if we need anything. Our taxes stayed roofline the same, we were able to transfer our old tax rate to the new house. It just depends on where you want to live, you can find a nice place.

As a lifelong Californian, I’m touched that the comments unanimously favor California. The video omitted major industries in our state. We are the world capital of the entertainment, porn, aerospace, automotive design, tech and countless other industries. The personal computer, iPhone, graphic user interface, the Internet, laser printer, most deep space probes and Mars landers, about half of the medical discoveries and US patents, Gone with the Wind, Titanic, Wizard of Oz, T2, Disneyland, the first HIV diagnosis, I can go on, all created, invented, or discovered here in California.

We have the most advanced public university systems in the country: the UC and Cal State systems.

I love living in LA and California, even if I can’t still afford a house at 50.

Born and raised in Cali. The weather, diversity, and variety of different landscapes and terrain are unmatched. Yes, cost of living is very high here, but there's also alot of opportunity here to flourish and make a living. We thought about moving to Austin after visiting there many times, but the climate isn't always the best. Either too hot or too rainy and you have to deal with the occasional tornado or hurricane. I would say--- out of all the states to move to besides California, I think TX is the most favorable. But we are staying put in Cali. Its just got too much to offer and our weather here is mild year round!
