I hate to say it about someone who has passed away, but it was a criminal level of stupidity that got him killed. Some people let their political ideology blind them to dangers.

I read “First They Killed My Father” by Loung Ung, when I first was in Cambodia 13 years ago. I can recommend it to everyone who likes to understand how it was like to live during Pol Pot.

I lived in Cambodia for a time. I have been to the old prison, 21, a number of times. It is now a museum to honor those who died. Unlike a western museum, it is not cleansed of the bad stuff. If you ever go to Phnom Penh, do not miss it.

A couple of things, some may be obvious<br><br>1) it wasn't a random act of violence. He was specifically targeted, cuz the other two in the morning were still breathing <br><br>2) I can't imagine the guards in that guest house doing anything other than what they are specifically told to do. Because in that society disobeying orders was usually the last thing you ever did. <br><br>3) as to why, who knows. That being said, even if he agreed with pol pot on almost everything , disagreeing with pot on any one single issue would be enough to get him the treatment that he got.
