  There were discussions about ending Starstreak production and focusing on LMM. I&apos;m glad they decided to continue producing both

  I&apos;m a former detachment commander and used this system and its predecessor the Javelin. Even its grandaddy used the beam riding system and it&apos;s a far better way to engage a VP target than heat seeking.<br><br>They wanted to mount them on helicopters for air to air but too much rubbish flies off them when they&apos;re fired. The new Martlet missile is essentially a modified (Shorts) Javelin missile.

  One thing you failed to mention that makes Starstreak so dangerous is that upon separation the darts spread into a triangular formation and spiral around the guidance beam making it far more likely at least one will directly impact the target as long as the operator can keep the beam even close.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4W5KQgcppo&amp;t=89">1:29</a> One aspect of starstreal that is incredible NEVER gets mentioned. <br><br>Against a typically defensive fighter, 95% to 99% of the energy from the warhead is wasted. <br>Blast frag and expanding rod just throw most of their destructive force away into empty air. <br><br>But starstreak?<br>Designed to hit with at least two darts, they are supersonic armour piercing tungsten darts with a delay timer and an explosive filler. <br><br>Think anti-tank APHEBC shells and the target has no armour. <br><br><i>100%</i> of <i>ALL</i> of the energy and shrapnel is expended into the fighter <i>from the inside of the jet</i><br><br>The aircraft just ceases to exist in a fireball. <br>In Ukraine we saw starstreak <i>cutting Russian helicopters clean in two</i><br><br>It can&apos;t be jammed, it doesn&apos;t miss, it can&apos;t be detected, it&apos;s almost hypersonic and it is utterly terrifying. <br>😨

  British missile engineers have loved beam riding since Sea Slug - but now, riding a laser beam rather than a radio beam, it has become nimble and accurate.

  Tungsten is the heaviest or densest per gram, of naturally occurring metals, I think. Making a killer dart is so British. Devised originally in a pub over pints of stout, during a game of….darts. Killer engineering
