Lots more food for thought: my own dice roll preference for initial statistics is 3d6 across the list (ST, INT, WIS, DEX, CON, CHA, this list also change in some publications / editions) then any two stats that are below 15 can be altered, this should be enough for most options to be chosen, (illusionists / paladins get the extra points needed for16/17 scores by random reduction of non-critical stats). This option does not apply if 15's have already been rolled in which case, extra gold (1d6 x10gp) or starting xp (10% to next level), or languages or other minor bonus should be used. Multi classes have always been a favourite of mine, I allow gold from all classes (due to the time they will be lagging behind in levels) at the worst it allows better armour class or expensive material componets for some lower class spells, and all the weapon/class profficiencies.

Great information for beginning and even veteran DM's.<br>We never used the weapon chart versus AC. But I did try to get DM's to use it. Too much trouble they said but I never could see how a dagger was just as effective against plate mail as a Mace or Sword.

Our DM house-ruled that bards start as subclass of thief, albeit with 2d6 HD at first level. No need for that nonsense of going through fighter, thief and then druid.
