Update: As of 8/11/26 War in the North is back on storefronts with a new updated version! The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition. So ignore my comments on it being unable to purchase anymore (even if that was true when the video came out). I may end up making a redone version of this video to cover the new version. Though the gameplay appears near identical. So if any new people are coming to this video due to the updated version the vast majority of what I say here is the same. From what I understand the only massive gameplay change is it being easier to swap between characters during gameplay and a lock on system. Whereas before you'd have to back out of the mission to swap characters. So if you still want a look at the game, this is it!

I love that there is still love for this game all these years later. I was a Technical Designer on this project and worked on building a lot of the enemy behavior until I was put in charge of building the boss fights. Although I've had this game in my Steam library since it launched I've never actually played through any of it as a regular player. I found this video to watch as a recap in order to avoid playing through it all but only 11min in I'm already nostalgic enough about it that I think I need to do both.

Thank you for loving this game enough to make such a long essay about it!

As someone who played the hell out of baldurs gate one and two then played the hell out of WITN too - it took me way too many hours to realise that a crazy proportion of the levels and objects' design, even some of the enemies, are taken directly from the earlier games!!!!

Seriously once you see it you can't unsee it. So happy I got a sealed 360 special edition with the big plastic troll!!!

I've been emulating the 360 version on Xenia using system link on CachyOS Linux and it's the dream version of split screen.

Only game me and my gf can both play for hours together

Yeah I wish this game was much larger than it is. It's one of my favorite games of all time but it's just way too short. By the way, talking to Bilbo about Urgost before going to meet the dragon is very beneficial.

A few months ago, I planned out a TRPG campaign set in the north during the War of the Ring. It's weirdly uncanny to see the first 2/3rds of this game follows a similar plot to what I'd planned. It couldn't even be subconscious copying, because I don't think I played past the 2nd stage way back when I was a kid.

They put a strike on the Hunt for Gollum fan film? The absolute gall of them!

By far my favourite part of the game is the amount of interaction you get with the Eagles; and that's saying a lot.
