Thank you. Your videos affirm my experience. I carry two pairs of insoles to prevent plantar fasciitis. For men’s shoes, I like Mephisto. They are waterproof, wide, have a tread, and dress up. Their All-Rounders are also great but less dressy. For flip flops, Oofos are great because they have lots of arch support but weigh little. They also have decent tread. They are relatively bulky, though.

I often use a small wash bag to put my shoes in. That way I can use the bag on laundry day to add clothes that require it

I wear leather low-top converse and add elastic, no-tie laces. The leather makes them easy to clean. Those converse boots and vans look really nice.

Excellent video. My tip: place those silica packs inside the shoes to dry them out =)

I do like the idea of a second pair of insoles

I've just come back from 3 months one-bag backpacking in South East Asia. I took a pair of black Salomon XA Pro 3D trailrunners as my everyday ones, "squishable" waterproof rafting sandals and cheap Primark flip-flop purely for use indoors and hostel showers.

Suprisingly, I used the Salamons more than the rafters because they were excellent for all my activities (hiking, scootering, travel days, restaurants). I bought the breathable non-gortex versions, so didnt sweat in them at all in 35C heat. The trick was to wear non-cotton socks.

The rafters were more for the beach or environments where I wouldn't hit my toes or twist my ankles because I'm prone to doing that 😅.

Comfort and practicality was how I chose which shoes to take. It all turned out perfectly as planned.

Flip flop rule 🙂 Great to wear after wear shoes / boos all day long and also let your feet breath, I even wear mine in the communal showers.
A friend of mine swears by Croc's, in the wet weather, he teams them up with a pair of waterproof socks and he's good to go

I love the Barefoot shoes by Vivo shoes but my boney old feet that have lost most of their padding don't tolerate "barefoot" part very well anymore but they do great when I add insoles to them to add padding and my feet are in heaven then! 🥰. The wide toe box and flat shoe is great for walking and they have such a great variety of styles from boots to running shoes made from a variety of materials. I'm really not sponsored by them but I've just found them to be so comfortable for me for all my travels whether to remote wildlife trips or city walks. Plus they're easy to pack. Love your tips and perspective. Could never live out of one bag though but we're carrying so much gear doing wildlife photography around the world. Always looking to pare down what I'm carrying though.
Catherine

When wearing waterproof shoes, at the end of the day, sprinkle a little bit of bicarbonate of soda in them and leave them to air. That seemed to stop mine from smelling.

Thanks, as always, for another great video. I wish you could do one on shoes for travellers with bunions. Painful bunions! Woe is me!!!!

I basically run the same system but all black waterproof Hokas currently. I can shovel snow in Colorado and still be comfortable in Manila (correct socks required for both of course). Their range is insane.
In colder months I add a pair of “ninja” socks (big toe separated) to hack my sandals into house shoes.

Barefoot shoes are the most “squishable”! I recommend vivobarefoot. You need to get used to wearing barefoot shoes but they are better for foot health and great for wide feet! Most of my shoes are now barefoot. I have a few pairs of ballet shoes, some sandals, some slides some waterproof trekking shoes, and some trainers.

I’ve found you can also wear them straight away without breaking them in! At least for me who wears mostly barefoot shoes. I also have some bedrock sandals that I use like flip flops if I need to go on the beach.
