  Cincinnati retiree here. &nbsp;I thatch, aerate and over-seed every fall. &nbsp;I&apos;m know in the neighborhood as &quot;the old man with the perfect lawn.&quot; &nbsp;The part about overseeding that I hate is keeping it evenly moist for the first few weeks. &nbsp;Automatic irrigation is splotchy, and my lawn has 8 (manual) watering zones. My neighbors think I&apos;m crazy. &nbsp;But I think my weed-free perfect lawn speaks for itself!

  I have a smaller piece of yard needing to be re-seeded. It mostly has bare spots in it and the areas that are grass come back in the spring. So I just focus on the brown spots. It’s small enough to use a rake for thatching and for the dead spots I clear them to the ground level. I lay in a light level of compost… not too much because it is potent… then I lay seed into the spots by hand making an even layer that looks almost like sesame seeds Lane closely in a salad. I water all the spots to soak the seeds, and then I lay down a cover of new black top soil to protect the seeds from birds and animals and ants. Like in the video I suppose that Peat moss work as well. And then I keep it moist for the next week to 10 days. This usually supports the germination and 2 inch blades are obvious in about a week. The blades grow through the new dirt covering.

  Nice mountain in the background, just bought a really neglected house in St Louis area, lawn is shot to, after I plant a few dogwoods out front going to get the yard right, glad I came across this, &nbsp;my Dad&apos;s yard was always like a golf course, gonna save this.

  I purchased the SunJoe a couple years ago and swear by that little thatcher. I typically stay away from electric tools but this thing for its price is worth every dollar. I used it a couple days ago and I’m always amazed at how much thatch comes up. I didn’t have a 100’ heavy duty extension cord so I had to buy one which added a $100 to my purchase price
