Thank you for uploading. Ravel has been the composer I have felt the most spiritual kinship to for some time now, and I have always thought him a man whose art reflects two extremes - fantasy and war, they could be described. It is why his left hand concerto is my favorite piece from him, it's like a battle in the trenches of the great war, painted through symbols of a great and terrifying dragon, and a desperate hero (the soldier(s)), et cetera. Watching this documentary is showing me that I have, in many ways, felt the soul of his music correctly, which is terribly relieving. Perhaps I, too, can channel my own imaginary in beautiful ways.

I played Bolero in the fiddle section once. Really hard to stay focused and disciplined. I did not do well. (Wish I could speak like Mr. Crossley :-))

I heard some evidence that Ravel got some inspiration for Bolero (especially the snare drum solo) from a performance he had heard in Paris of Carl Nielsens 5th Symphony with its extended snare drum solo part.....which also employed the triplet figure you hear in Bolero...
