Great episode devoted to one of my favorite composers. I've actually visited Le Belvedere and admired the piano where he composed. A highlight of my life.

Well, thanks a lot for this rambling conversation about our national glory. M. R. ...! It's always interesting to discover how other nations feel about him...! And thanks for the assumption that his brain desease might have been caused by the ancient violent traumatisms endured during the war, a remark that I have never heard or read before...! 🥰🥰🥰

Awesome episode! I like him more as a impressionist than a symbolist, although it's just my personal taste. Congratulations on your 7th season. 🙂👍🏻🎉

What do you like about Ravel? His ORCHESTRATION!!! Including Debussy's piano piece trois nocturnes!

There are few pieces of music as fine as Ravel’s piano concerto in G..second movement!

https://youtu.be/W1hyEjZros8?si=KGAccCrSTpQLgs9m

The constant references to Ravel's "Spanish heritage" really grated on me after a while. He had no "Spanish heritage"! His mother was Basque (that at least was accurately stated)!. That is an entirely different culture from "Spanish", with its own separate unrelated language. Please do your homework before you disseminate false information! I'm sure he heard tons of Spanish music because he spent his childhood very close to the Spanish border. That does not mean that he somehow was Spanish by osmosis. Debussy didn't have one drop of Spanish blood, yet he was equally fascinated by Spanish music.

Ravel, was very proud of his Basque heritage, and in fact infused some of his music, particularly the first movement of The piano trio, with Basque melodies and rhythms.

Because such very basic information about his ethnic heritage was misstated so many times early in this podcast, I stopped listening after about the first 20 minutes.
