  Thank you so much for this excellent video. As a kid living outside New York in the 50s and 60s, I saw Elston Howard along with the other team members, Mantle, Berra, Richardson, Boyer, Ford, etc. I never knew much more about his than that he was the Yankee's catcher, and that he was at the time, the only black player on the team. I wish I had better understood his baseball skills, his quiet strength and influence on both teams he played for, and how much his teammates appreciated him. Now I do thanks to this video. What a shame that he was not chosen to succeed Ralph Houk.

  We got our first black and white tv in 59 when I was 5 and my hero's where Yogi, Elston and Mickey and then the rest of the Yankee's. Later Thurman was moved into fourth place. But god, what a history of talent that has played on that team through the last 100 years. To this day, that white with black pinstripe uniform is the best looking one in baseball. Thanks for all the great memories.

  Class act. I remember him shutting down the Billy Martin/Reggie Jackson clash after the Jim Rice double in 1977 at Fenway.

  He was named St Louis Man Of The Year and yet Elston doesn&apos;t have a ⭐ in the St Louis Walk of Fame.<br>Elston was the 2nd best catcher to come out of St Louis.

  I am 72 years old and a life long Yankee Fan! My father took my brother to the first Yankee Bat day! The bat I got had Elston Howard’s autograph! I was thrilled!

  Elston was one of the best Yankee catchers ever. Also, really cool to see my grandfather interviewing Mantle and Maris at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUWdNpeTYo4&amp;t=1454">24:14</a>.
