Dude, no joke, I (35 years old) have been wracking my brain lately trying to remember the name of that show I used to watch about the Dark Water. It was literally Pirates of Dark Water! XD

39:10 I think the reason of the confusion is that the Little Lulu show did air in Cartoon Network Latin America for a long time, so the commenter is probably from latin america or outside the US, hence the confusion

The guy at 40:30 was re efferancing Treasure Planet. An old Disney movie that came out same year as Lilo and Stitch. Main character had a "solar surfer" which was a sci-fi take on a wind surfer. 40:35

i absolutely love the use of the Traverse Town theme as background music lol such a perfect song that goes hand in hand with the nostalgia of all these shows for me

So about the Thundercats/Chima Lego thing, it’s possible that a higher up at Lego mentioned something to the Thundercats people about maybe looking into making a toy deal with them, but then never actually got around to doing so, and because of that it was never told to any of the other Lego people. To me that makes the most sense

I wonder if the Thundercats discrepancy is just a case where neither is right and/or neither have all the facts straight. Lego does have a tendency to avoid having two similar themes going at once, that's why we don't have a proper in-house sci-fi space theme right now, and there hasn't been one in about a decade, because it would step on the toes of Star Wars.
Imo I think too much overlaps with the production for either story to be 100% true. Chima was in production for so long, looking at the concept art it was most likely in production around the same time as Thundercats. The way the story is told on the Thundercats side of things, it sounds like the negotiations for a lego theme happened closer to air.
We know also that for Ninjago, the faction of snake villains were intended to test the waters before Chima released, to see if people wanted all the animal themed vehicles. I think the concept art for the serpentine alone dates back to about 2009, thus reaffirming Chima's production timeline.
Going off on a limb, I think perhaps Chima and Thundercats went into production around the same time, parallel to each other, a Thundercats theme was being negotiated but it was just too close to Chima already in development, and Lion'O's design got reused for Laval. Because aside from that one character...Thundercats is about cats. Chima is about many different animal factions, I think it's too many unique molds that don't really parallel to Thundercats for it to have just been some barely salvaged project. So on Lego's end, Tommy Andreasen WAS working on this independent of any licenses for years and had to reuse some Thundercats assets at some point, and on Thundercats' end there WAS a lego theme planned and what was made was technically reused but came off exaggerated through a lack of elaboration on what that meant. They worked on their projects, they wouldn't be fully aware of what the other party was working on.
(Sorry if I'm verbose lol. The original comment in the video was me on a different account. I love lego cartoons so I was confident in my knowledge of the production timeline and certain dates on concept art to take Tommy Andreasen at face value, tbh I didn't quite fact check on the Thundercats side of things because uhhhh, I'm more of a He-man person lol.)

40:30 Eureka Seven is another potential show, not necessarily Space Pirates, but a ragtag group of rebels and there is definitely space surfing. It would have been an Adult Swim/Toonami show.
