18 Bizarre Facts About Nevada That Sound Made Up, But Aren’t

Nevada is the state where the government set off more than 900 nuclear bombs while Las Vegas hotels printed blast schedules so tourists could watch. That is just one of 18 bizarre facts about Nevada that sound completely made up, and every single one of them is true. Nevada is the only state where you can legally vote for "None of These Candidates." It has a highway officially named after aliens, a sand dune that sings, a shoe store X-ray law that is still on the books, and a fish whose entire wild population lives on a rock shelf smaller than your living room. And the famous Las Vegas Strip is not actually inside Las Vegas. Along the way we visit Area 51 and the Extraterrestrial Highway, Lake Tahoe and the shrinking Lake Mead, the rainbow colored Fly Geyser, the Devils Hole pupfish, the biggest gold mining complex on Earth, and the Nevada Test Site, where the Cold War played out in the desert an hour from the Strip. You will find out why Reno became the divorce capital of America, how a 50-cent shrimp cocktail became a Las Vegas legend, why Nevada produces most of America's gold, how the driest state became the best at recycling water, and how Nevada's entire constitution was sent to Abraham Lincoln by Morse code. We research, write and narrate every video ourselves. The voice you hear is a real human narrator, not an AI voice or text to speech. Whether you live in Nevada, are planning a Las Vegas trip, love American history and geography, or just enjoy strange facts about the 50 states, this video will show you a side of the Silver State you have never seen.
