As an anthropologist working with mindfulness I really need to thank Dr. Thompson for this talk.

Ah. Dennet's one to one correlation in Hofstadter's Strange Loop is thankfully defeated.

BEING is after all performative, like Judith Butler and Foucault said about sexuality.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJHCae1liAI&t=1533">25:33</a> i think a better response goes something like: the brain as currently formalized in science is as a solitary, functional unit that is parachuted into its environment. However, 4E cognition claims a more ethological view of the brain's development both in individual and evolutionary history. Moreover, no functional unit greater than neuron can be understood independent of some 4E-elaborated enviornment. Rather than examine the brain as a Martian would examine and make claims about strange conclusions about strange pocket-sized rocks with black mirrors.

It seems odd to suggest that correlative studies about brain region function are totally useless. Especially considering that similar studies can be performed on other primates. As flawed as reductionism might be, it does provide some grounded insight into the reality of brain function. I also suggest that if your epistemology is highly influenced by postmodernism, you should be very clear about it. Smuggling epistemic relativism into proposals for scientific inquiry is dishonest and manipulative.

So looping effects are basically loops that have a deductive top-down direction?
