VYACHESLAV GORDEYEV People's Artist of the USSR Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Gordeyev is the founder and permanent artistic director of the Moscow Regional State Theater "Russian Ballet." Vyacheslav Gordeyev is an outstanding Russian dancer, soloist with the Bolshoi Theater, ballet master, choreographer, theater director, and teacher. His high artistic achievements are known far beyond the borders of our country. As a ten-year-old boy, generously endowed by nature with excellent physical fitness and talent, he joined the ballet class of the Moscow Choreographic School. Under the guidance of one of the best teachers, P.A. Pestov, he mastered the intricacies of the Russian choreographic school. Already on his first tour abroad, the young dancer became a crowd favorite. Gordeyev received enthusiastic applause throughout Europe, and the British press dubbed him the "golden boy." Immediately after graduating from the Bolshoi Ballet School, Slava Gordeyev was invited to join the Bolshoi Theater, where, literally from his first appearance on the renowned stage, he established himself as a rising star in the firmament of world ballet. "He is a dancer of sensational technique and electrifying virtuosity... He has a unique style," said Mikhail Lavrovsky, a leading figure in the ballet scene and a Lenin Prize laureate. In 1981, at the height of his dancing abilities, Vyacheslav Gordeyev, while still at the Bolshoi Theater, became the head of the Classical Ballet Ensemble, which later became the State Russian Ballet Theater. His extensive professional experience, organizational talent, and infectious passion for creativity—all of this elevated this small company to the ranks of Russia's finest ballet companies. Zealously devoted to the Russian academic school, Gordeyev guided his dancers in this direction. Generously sharing his soul, knowledge, and experience with his students, he literally nurtured dancers with virtuoso skill, vibrant individuality, and a high level of stage culture. Classical heritage forms the bulk of the theater's repertoire, but considerable attention is also paid to contemporary choreography. It was here that the young choreographer Vyacheslav Gordeyev realized numerous creative ideas, and it was here that he rapidly progressed from composing short choreographic forms and original concert numbers to staging full-length productions. Gordeyev the choreographer earned the respect and admiration of international ballet critics. In 1992, following the theater's triumphant European tour, Gordeyev was awarded the "Best Choreographer of the Year" prize, and later the Maurice Béjart Special Prize. From 1995 to 1997, Vyacheslav Gordeyev directed the Bolshoi Theater Ballet Company. Unjustly forgotten masterpieces like "Paganini," "Romeo and Juliet," and "Raymonda" returned to the stage. The Bolshoi Theater hosted its first Evening of Contemporary Ballet, where, having demonstrated his talent as a director and choreographer, he presented a contemporary choreography to the public—a ballet to the music of Antonio Piazzolla, "Last Tango," a truly revolutionary step at the time. Always eager to learn, Vyacheslav Gordeyev graduated from the journalism department of Moscow State University. He was one of the founders of the country's first professional magazine, "Ballet." Later, V. Gordeyev graduated from the ballet mastering department of the State Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS), where years later he joined as a professor to head the ballet mastering department. To this day, Vyacheslav Gordeyev devotes himself entirely to art, serving as the permanent artistic director of the Russian Ballet Theater. Combining the talents of an artist and a superb organizer, he maintains a high creative standard, remains in excellent shape, and is full of plans. With inexhaustible creative energy, the Maestro creates new works—always a search, an experiment. The company tours extensively throughout Russia and far beyond its borders with consistent success, delighting audiences with Russian classics and new productions. People's Artist of the USSR, Professor V.M. Gordeyev is actively involved in the ballet community: he organizes joint creative projects, serves as a regular jury member for prestigious ballet competitions, and runs a workshop at the State Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS). Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Gordeyev's work can, without exaggeration, be called a sublime service to the art of ballet and culture as a whole.
