Writing only what you have experienced, is different from writing what you understand about life, whether you have experienced it or not.

I think there’s a big difference between writing what you know and writing what actually happened to you. I write songs and I’m developing musicals, and quite often I’m writing people and situations I’ve never experienced — but the emotion underneath still has to be something I recognise. Perhaps that’s the bit we really need to “know”. Really enjoyed this.

I’ve said my goal is to write deeply personal, honest, autobiographical songs about other people. 😊<br>A struggle for me is always fitting the physical details in. If my song is conversational, I feel a tension between keeping the conversation real and focused and getting physical details in without it sounding contrived. Any guidance there?
