Excellent decision on keeping the Adobe. If you ever replaster, only use lime plaster, unless you add 2" of foam all the way around with a fiberglass mesh and plaster with a final elastomeric color coat like the Sto systems. That will greatly improve the thermal performance of all the thermal mass inside the resulting insulated (foam) envelope . It makes a huge difference.

Don't cut the trees down! That will just cause more shoots to come up. There is really only two herbicides that works to kill Trees of hell! Triclopyr and glyphosate. I have used triclopyr with excellent results, even on big trees. Wear goggles, gloves, and protective clothes. Mix it 50/50 with diesel and brush it on the bottom 18 inches, all the way around. Even with them having been removed, you will continue to get new sprouts. Treat them in late summer, they should die in weeks, then remove them in spring. Continue this every year untill you don't see any sprouts.

You have to use stump killer on those Ailanthus stumps, or you will never succeed in containing those.

I touchy adobe historical preservation and restoration. The stucco on the walls hides damages to the structural adobe behind the cements materials. Lime plaster is best using Rocwellas as the surface for lime plaster to adhere to. I learned beside the greatest and most knowledgeable adobe builder, restores and lime plaster makers. My student restored the Phillips chapel in las. Ru es on the Camino real.
