  I think this is very interesting! But I will tell you a fun fact, before we had living room rooms we had parlors. And until about 100 years ago, if a family member died, the funeral would be held in the parlor, but then gradually funerals began being held off site. &nbsp;They were called funeral parlors, and then it became odd to have a parlor in your home so they started calling it the “living room” the opposite of the funeral parlor. ❤

  The comment about the formal living room really hits close to home. We just downsized from a very large rural house with a formal living and dining room, beautifully decorated, idyllic views, and heartbreakingly empty. There are only two of us, and it was like this huge house was sucking our energy to try to fill the void and we had nothing left to give. You walk through these unused rooms every day, and the house starts to feel like a monument of loneliness and isolation. It plays tricks on your mind.

  I became very sick and decided that instead of moving when I retired, I would remodel and make my current house disability friendly. &nbsp;The contractor told me he would pack everything. &nbsp;I pictured rows of neat boxes. &nbsp;Instead, they threw everything i own into piles in the garage. &nbsp;They packed like an avalanche packs. I am still sorting. I have always been a tidy person, but the giant heaps have me the reason to carefully sort and consider each item. &nbsp;It&apos;s taking forever, but I will emerge with a truly curated home. &nbsp; Today I got rid of a broken and unfixable toy that I really loved.

  “The decision doesn’t disappear.” THIS! It’s so wild how many people I hear, after a loved one has passed away, they tend to mention that they have to go deal with all of the stuff, including a storage unit. I don’t want my loved ones to have that burden when I pass away.

  My husband and I have downsized from a 4 bedroom hour to a one bedroom condo. We’re in our 30’s and can sense others judgement about this. It’s been freeing.
