  I just found a crazy statistic: Chris Evert reached the seminals or better in the first 34 (yes, THIRTY FOUR!!) grand slams she played in starting at 16 in the 1971 US Open and ending 12 years later when she was defeated in the 3rd round of wimbledon 1983. That is astounding. A quick glance at the rest of her career gland slam appearances show another 21 tournaments played, 18 reaching the semis or better, 2 QF’s and a 3rd round loss. Altogether that’s 55 grand slams played, with 51 semis or better. And out of 34 finals played, she won 18 of them! 🤩

  King was clearly injured here but nevertheless one can easily see how great a player she was. She had so much style and variety and I do loveher volleying even more than the ones of Court, Nav or Goolagong.<br><br>There is great footage of her from the 1974 US Open finals against Evonne where you can see how athletic, explosive and talented King actually was.<br><br>The matches of her I personally enjoy the most are her 1982! Semifinals at Wimbledon against Chrissie, her win in the quarterfinals against Tracy from the same year and her immensly great match agaibst Tracy in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 1979.<br><br>Against Chris Billie knew that apart from grass where she some wins until 1975 she would end up as the losing player although she had some wicked tactics with her variety. She faired much better against Martina in her later years.<br><br>Dear JTC: If you have more match uos between Billie and Chrissie we would all highly enjoy that ❤ thank you🎉🎉

  The fact that Billie Jean even made the semifinals was remarkable, considering she was coming up injury.

  Just as context, Billie Jean King was 35 here. She debuted at the U.S. Open as a precocious 15 year old in 1959…20 years before this match.

  This was a classic example of what a ruthless match player Chris was. Billie Jean was injured and she was a friend of Chris&apos;s, but Chris gave her absolutely nothing. Like Rosie Casals said of Chris: &quot;She wanted to beat everyone 6-0, 6-0 and would be willing to stay on court for three hours to do it&quot;

  Wonderful post!!!! As with other matches such as the 83 Virginia Slims and 84 WTA Championships, the confidence so evident in the semis deserted Chrissie in the final. Alas.

  I am a Evert fan, always, but I was not aware of BJK&apos;s variety. King could drive, topspin and slice off BOTH sides and with wooden rackets.
