Excellent Video Martha! Hardly any YouTube Videos focus on this very important aspect, especially for recreational players. Thank you very much for helping us understand how we can improve and get better every day.

oh wow. thank you for pointing this out. I always struggle and i still struggle with this issue. I normally start feeling better and in rhythm after like 25-30 mins of play. By this time i am already on the verge of loosing the set. Then I switch on and tell myself, i rather lose a match by playing loose and swinging freely than playing safe and slow. Immediately i start playing better, things get closer and i start winning. By the time I realize, the time is over. At the end , i am feeling much better but i feel like a lost cause thinking about what happened. I tried to jog and run up the stairs the other day to get warmed up before play but i was way too exhausted during the match. I need to learn more about the dynamic warmup and how to be active and maintain high intensity from the first ball. I also have a lot of nerves. when the match starts i feel a tingle on my legs. Tennis is a tough sport :)

This is a really interesting one to me because I have just gotten back into playing semi competitively after coaching for a lot of years and I am finding that my biggest problem is that my "coach brain" is taking over at both the start and end of matches. I hope it's just mostly muscle memory, but it has been super annoying to deal with in matches where I have the swing at the ball that I want and I just waste it a lot of the time. Playing low risk vs high risk is strategic, but playing the wrong shot due to muscle memory is super annoying.

I have come to think of tennis as two different sports. Drill Tennis with our team or coach, which includes scrimmaging, and then Competitive Tennis matches. I seem to be playing two entirely different types of tennis. =)
