A criminally overlooked movie. Great choice guys!

Some secret trivia for this movie is that the reason Taye diggs' character seems like he's feeling throughout is because he canonically is! All the higher up villains actually are, that's why the "throne room" looks colorful and ornate and like more traditional architecture vs everything being bland and ultra-modern. That's why the Father character keeps asking Bale's character what he's feeling. He's genuinely curious because he feels too. The point is that the ruling class of the movie's dystopia are all big hypocrites.

It's one of the rare movies where the main character doesn't get his ass kicked by the bad guy and then recover thanks to some inspiring moment to defeat the bad guy... he just gets the job done. That final reveal purged him of his doubt and emotional turmoil that was slowing him down, and he went to work. 😂

When John Wick goes to bed he doesn't check under his bed for monsters, he checks for Preston.

The implication is that Diggs and the Father guy are both not taking intervals because the leader class gets to live however they want (the 'throne room' was far too colourful and emotive for people not feeling). It's classic class divide found in all dystopian stories where the upper class are never beholden to the rules everyone else must follow... which is true for the real world as well but we've done a great job of convincing ourselves it isn't.

This movie was wildly popular in Japan, there are tons of anime and video games that reference it, sometimes even shot for shot.

From director Kurt Wimmer himself (paraphrasing here):
"Every movie we see protagonist, even as powerful as can be, fights through a hurdle in the end. I wanted a complete power fantasy where the hero is impeccable front to back in his skills."

Whoever recommended this THANK YOU Christian Bale is so badass 51:15 I love the scene where he's hooked up to the machine and just completely shuts his emotions down literal CHILLS. Always happy to be here guys ❤😊

This movie is actually really important because it's a good mainstream adaptation of the dystopian warnings Brave New World and 1984.

I've always had a soft spot for this movie, I think it has enough interesting ideas and setpieces to overcome its flaws. Yes, it sort of beats you over the head with its central premise, and borrows liberally from famous dystopias that have come before it, but even when the film seems to try too hard, to me it's always come across as spirited and earnest, rather than rote or pretentious. It feels like a real labor of love on the part of the filmmakers.

Plus there are some truly fantastic scenes and a surprising amount of pathos for something that, on the surface, is a breezy genre pic. The beginning with Sean Bean, the dog scene, the moment when Bale finds out his kids are on his side, the interrogation and entire climactic battle. I wish movies with twice this budget could have half the passion and heart on display here.

Christan Bale is SO GOOD in this Role.
He is such a well rounded Actor, dude!
Takes his craft very seriously and his commitment to every role is so admirable.
I mean going from his emaciated form (He overdid it, went above and beyond to sincerly embody the Character phsically and psychologically) in the 'Machinist' to 'Batman' in LESS than a year! 👌🏻💯💯💯
P.S. Very handsome along with being so talented (American Psyco, the bathroom speech is LEGENDARY) ❤
This Movie hits hard though!
When he heard the Music and started to emote, I started to cry.. and the scene when he saved the puppy 😢... just amazing alongside (yet again) the scene when the sound of Classical Music playing touched his soul and he began to realise the importance of art and how it can impact you and make you a better person & soothe your soul (Just imagine being in that stoic state, living life as a robot and hearing beautiful music for the first time).
Just showes how it's important to feel and not fall under a Draconian like Society he was in.
It was almost as hard hitting as Robin Williams (RIP, Legend) acting (the bench) scene in Good Will Hunting.
Very underrated Movie.
Kudos, Mr.Bale!
