  The Toros version of “Brr It’s Cold in Here” and how it differed from the Clovers version of the cheer reminded me of how “The New Girl in Town” was performed differently in the 2007 version of Hairspray.

  Working hard in your underfunded school in an underprivileged community, only to have other cheerleaders steal your work (whose school has an abundance of resources) and win and receive your deserved recognition is certainly a horror movie.

  I used to be a cheerleader, and these competitions are no joke. You&apos;re not allowed to stop or pause a routine, no matter what. Someone fell and hit their head? Keep going. Someone dislocates their knee (yes, this happened)? Keep going. Unless the jury said stop, you kept. Going. I literally had a girl vomit all over me in the middle of a routine during the pre-show for the jury, and we kept going for almost a full minute, smiles and all, before the music was cut. Went backstage, washed off, and then it was showtime again.<br><br>It’s actually crazy.

  Still so infuriated about the clovers as an afterthought. Gabrielle Union spilled that the movie made it far enough to test audiences before production realized “oh wait, The Blacks see themselves as relatable in this??” and immediately filmed just enough b-roll of the clovers to slip in trailers and make it look as though they had actual parallel storylines not just screen time as antagonists.<br><br>edit: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2n0wFYiDaM&amp;t=904">15:04</a> my initial comment was written just as I started watching.   As a little Hispanic gay boy who grew up with this movie in elementary school, I felt like the Clovers were treated so poorly. I LOVED Isis so much, and wanted so much more of her because she felt like a leader and someone who knew who she was. <br><br>Gay, shy, poc little me saw this as a comfort movie. But it was banned in my home because my parents didn’t want a gay child. So I had to hide it every time I watched it.

  Being one of the few black cheerleaders in middle school, the way this movie helped me realize how much alot of white women study us then copy our moves at a young age...its weird. Because stuff like what happened in Bring in On does happen 😭<br>I wasn&apos;t into cheerleading like that, my mom is the one who pushed me to give it a chance and im glad because it did help me peep some stuff about the politics of cheerleading.
