I think that’s one of the show’s most elegant storytelling choices. Making Claudia’s thoughts inaccessible to Lestat but accessible to Louis. It also makes the family triangle much more interesting. Lestat has Louis physically and emotionally, but Claudia has access to Louis’s interior world and Louis has access to hers. So Lestat is always slightly outside the most intimate channel between them.

Claudia comes in like a wrecking ball!!! And you still ain't seen anything yet!!! What a CHARACTER Anne Rice conceived. Knowing where her inspiration came from is even more devastating.

Pay close attention to the jeweled pendant that Lestat gifts to Claudia on her (18th/4th anniversary) birthday as a vampire. The pendant will reappear in the series with a different owner. It is an important part of the story.
