The reason he kept winning for so long was that the fake contract had a reproduction of Noburo Tsuburaya's hanko stamp. Despite all the glaring indications that the contract was forged, that little stamp was all that was needed for it to be seen as valid.

Hi! A lifelong Ultraman fan here! I really enjoyed this video, especially because you went into the Chaiyo dispute despite being relatively new to Ultraman.

At around 15:21 in your video, I think there are really two different battles going on here. I’m definitely not a law guy, so I can’t really explain all the legal details of what was happening in court, but I am pretty knowledgeable about the Ultraman side of things since I’ve been watching it since I was a kid. From what I understand, the 2006/2007 lawsuit and the 2009–2010 litigation are basically two different legal arguments involving the same IP, rather than one case simply continuing in a straight line.

The 2006/2007 lawsuit, if I understand it correctly, was mainly about Chaiyo’s continued use of Ultraman IP—things like DVDs, merchandise, and other exploitation of the franchise. That was a different issue from the later 2009–2010 litigation, which was centered around the supposed international rights that Sompote claimed came from the 1976 agreement. And of course, this was all years before the 2018 U.S. case, where the jury ultimately found that the supposed 1976 agreement was not an authentic contract. So looking at the timeline, I can totally understand why the later Japanese ruling feels completely bizarre. 😭

One thing I think is worth mentioning since you brought up Blue Arc: there was also a major U.S. case that you didn’t really get into. In 2017, a California jury unanimously found that the supposed 1976 agreement was not an authentic contract, and the U.S. District Court entered its final judgment in 2018 in Tsuburaya’s favor. The case involved a lot more evidence and discovery than the earlier proceedings, including witness testimony and handwriting experts. The judgment also addressed UMC’s claimed right to make new/derivative Ultraman works, which became relevant to the whole Blue Arc situation.

And what’s crazy is that UMC appealed that decision, but the Ninth Circuit affirmed it in 2019, and the judgment became final in 2020. So when you’re talking about Blue Arc, that U.S. case is actually a pretty important part of the story.

Anyway, that’s pretty much everything I wanted to add! I’m not a lawyer, so take what I said about the legal side with a grain of salt 😅, but I’ve been an Ultra fan for a long time and thought some extra context might help make this incredibly confusing saga a little easier to follow.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the video, especially seeing someone relatively new to Ultraman discover one of the craziest parts of its history. Keep making videos like this! I’ll definitely be checking out what you make next. 👏

As a Thai person, I feel deeply ashamed about this matter.

I still vividly remember and feel furious about an interview where Sompote was asked about Ultraman and gave completely incorrect answers.

1. Why did the face of the early "Type A" Ultraman (1966) look so odd?

He claimed the designer was drunk, but the reality based on actual records is that it was a design flaw involving trial and error; the material deteriorated rapidly, necessitating a switch to "Type B" starting from Episode 14.

2. Why does Ultraman form a plus-sign shape to fire his beam? He claimed it was a concept where positive and negative forces collided to generate a beam of light (WTF?)

but in truth, it stemmed from special effects limitations; the "Specium Ray" emitted from his arms had to be hand-drawn in, and the pose served as an instant visual cue to the audience that he was unleashing his signature finishing move.

3. He claimed Ultraman could fly because he was a robot!?

In reality, he is an alien from Nebula M78 he can manipulate his body's energy to levitate and move at high speeds through both the atmosphere and outer space, allowing him to fly from Earth out into the cosmos.

Please let me know if there are any mistakes my English isn't very good.

Also, rest assured while many Thai Ultraman fans appreciate the collaboration that produced the movie "Hanuman and the Seven Ultramen" they strongly detest Sompote's actions.

Space Warriors 2000 having Ultraman action figure talking is really ironic. Because in the 2013 Ultraman Ginga also did the same with a talking Ultraman Taro doll.

If you haven't watched I would highly recommend at least the original Ultraman (1966) it's available on Prime but yeah Chaiyo was something else

I'd rather watch every Ultraman thing than all that MCU Garbage. Cos is one old filmmaker said, "Marvel movies don't count as cinema."
