The video about Biblical Parallels in FNAF Lore is out now if you're interested: https://youtu.be/mHf3nslRmrw

Here's a link to the amazing video by Gibi's Good Idea Bad Idea that I mentioned. I know it's long but it's 100% worth it because of how many interesting takes on the lore it presents:
https://youtu.be/tTC7FExiH8I?si=Gsb8chTgmgv81h4h

I've been waiting for someone to talk about the two types of fnaf fans. You summed it up perfectly. I either have those from the edgy side that want me to run things, or the side that likes fnaf to be less serious and think edgy rated R fnaf is dumb. I haven't made a public statement yet, but yes. Fnaf Vhs isn't Fnaf. It's an aspect of fnaf that has been amplified. The fnaf movie shouldn't be like fnaf vhs because it doesn't translate into film or any other media for that matter. Me and my videos don't represent what fnaf SHOULD be, it just represent an alternative for what fnaf CAN be.

I totally agree that the Fnaf VHS tapes have definitely skewed the image of fnaf for some people. There's no doubt that Fnaf was scary, but even since the beginning Scott has tried to keep these games relatively comedic to balance out the darker themes, whether it be the funny phone guy messages, Fazbear entertainment being comically negligent, Freddy honking nose, or you literally being fired in the first game for odor. Yes, the moment to moment gameplay is scary, and the story is pretty dark, but the VHS tapes have taken it to a whole new level, where they're barely even resemble the game outside the basic story elements and characters.

You also have to keep in mind Fnaf 1 wasn't something that Scott seemed to be really passionate about. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he was happy as hell at his success, but Scott was never interested in making horror games. And you can see that after his games became a huge success, You can see how Scott started to inject more humor into the series, specifically with Fnaf 6 and UCN. Scott never wanted to make serious games. He wanted to make fun games. He's not pandering to a younger audience and trying to sell out. He's just making games he wants to make.

People really do need to remember how tame FNaF is cuz honestly Freddy biting someone in half is the most graphic we’ve gone so far and it was mostly shadows

Edit: for those who keep pointing out the obvious dark things that happen in the games, I’m talking about what we SEE rather than what we KNOW. Yes I know all the messed up things that happens in the games. No we don’t actually see 90% of them happen and the 10% is usually in 8-bit minigames. There’s a huge difference. Springtrap is probably the most graphic the games get, even then he’s mainly just a weird looking corpse that’s mostly covered

While fnaf was never exactly about the horror or the gore, the thing i like about the vhs tapes is that they kinda show how it would look like if u went in a abandoned and dark establishment at 12:00 am full of tall robots possessed by vengeful , dangerous and angry spirits, as well as showing the suffering of the characters and the kids souls, but yeah fnaf was supposed to be like that

Afton being a sick person and murdering children for fun is awful, but I think him trying to justify his murders, his insisting that they deserved it, is somehow worse.

it's less of the fnaf vhs problem, and it's more about how the fandom uses fnaf vhs in conversation

Took the words out of my mouth.
the Squimpus tapes are some of my favourite pieces of FNaF media, but it's really skewed the perception of the main series.
FNaF has horrific events in the story, but the games aren't about the horror, but rather the narrative.

I've got a bit to say. People often say 'the movie isn't fnaf it should've been gore and like the vhs' and I really dislike that take, because.. that's not what fnaf is. Even looking at the first three games, FNAF never relied on outright gore. The closest is springtrap and 8-bit blood. Despite the story being so horrific, it's never gone to gore. It's always hidden, left to your imagination. I think that's a strength of the body horror or horror in general of the first games, the unknown. I think the move captured that well. The springlock scene for example is really well done imo, not over the top- not a billion blood fx everywhere.. it's great. FNAF Is kind of for everyone, sure it's dark but there's a lot to enjoy for whatever you're looking for.

I don't mean to sound naive here but how hard is it to not be a child molester/groomer?
It feels like half of the artists on the Internet end up being exposed eventually.

the "fredbear does not exist, springbonnie does not exist, nothing happened" has the same energy as "there's no war on baa sing se"

To me, the VHS tapes are usually a side appetizer that I really like, yet still understand is a separate thing from the actual main series. Different vibes and all.
