  Stats are stats. Michigan was 1 for 4 in the red zone at producing a TD. Iowa got a pick, a turnover on downs, and they forced a FG within the 5. Producing those yards and not doing much with them isn’t very dominant. IMO, if a D is holding a team to fewer than 3 TDs, then they are definitely not being dominated. They should feel grateful for a rare slip by Phil Parker for not taking out a DB that seems to have reinstated his groin injury, which ended in an easy 50yd TD. Props to Michigan O for seeing that. It could’ve ended up a 13 point game for Michigan because I doubt they would’ve taken a FG to only be up by 2. Iowa hadn’t even attempted a FG at that point. <br><br>Iowa had zero turnovers and was 2 for 2 in the red zone at getting a TD. Their special teams did more in producing 7 points to Michigan’s 6 (2 FGs) and more often making it a longer field for Michigan’s O. Iowa also won in penalties. <br><br>Both Ds relatively did well. Michigan’s DL really showed up. That’s the only facet I think Michigan dominated. It helped the LBs and DBs ensure runs were going to be short as well as forced Brown to miss some really good opportunities to Diaz when he did get some space. BTW, that candy store comment was really presented out of context to make him sound more arrogant. I guess it kinda helped against a more emotional and less disciplined Michigan backfield. Iowa had zero runs for 10+ yds. They kept Iowa out of the red zone, except for 2 series, just didn’t force the turnovers with that pressure. <br><br>Iowa’s D played their usual bend-no-break. It made for some long drives for Michigan and resulted in them losing the turnover battle. As I said, Michigan was 1 for 4 in the red zone at getting a TD. If I remember correctly, there were no runs for 10+ yds until 3rd QT, and it was one by Michigan for the whole game.<br><br>Both QBs have some development needed to produce a very successful season, and it seems both OCs are learning how to better use them in game. This was very apparent with Underwood in the plays called. He’s got the size, the arm and the legs to be top tier. Brown looked impressive in going to the Rig House with confidence and keeping his composure when dealing with the pressure and getting sacked for the first time. When the game appeared lost he made the only pass the Michigan D left open and completed it with his WR making an NFL level catch. He’s a competent QB for the NCAA and can be good if he gets the longer passes dialed in better. He’s had 1 week of being the starter and getting all snaps in practice. We’ll see if he can develop to good with some dangerous receiving tools available.<br><br>All in all, it was a game both teams can learn a lot from moving forward. It was an example of how the basic stats can be very misleading and how having over 3x the funds to spend on talent than your competitor isn’t going to guarantee success. Michigan has a much higher ceiling with that level of talent, but they look like one of those Iowa teams that have come out flat in the beginning of the season and became very dangerous in November.

  If you subtract penalties and add hidden yards, like kickoff returns, the stats are actually pretty close. Mistakes are costly. Kick two extra field goals and Michigan wins.

  Some stats that Michigan DIDN’T win:<br><br>Turnovers<br>Special teams yardage<br>Red zone efficiency<br>4th down conversions<br>Penalty yards<br><br>Iowa won all the stat categories they care about, and that&apos;s how they won the game.<br><br>Also, Diaz was a non-factor outside of the fact that that unsportmanlike penalty was the fruit of a seed planted by Diaz with his &quot;candy store&quot; line. Got your secondary emotional and it bore the sweetest fruit at the most crucial moment.

  I think the biggest surprise was the lack of discipline. I said 14-10 because I expected sound play on both sides and there were mad penalties on TCUN side and Iowa on the defensive side looked kinda meh. It felt like neither team really wanted it that much until the end and Iowa said fine we will take the win. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/gobucks">#GOBUCKS</a>

  You know what Iowa is, they&apos;re the slow disciplined tank that if you don&apos;t properly dismantle and let them stick around will make you pay. Michigan did everything but completely destroy them and Iowa fed off the mistakes to win. Sometimes it good to know how to win ugly.

  Yes, Iowa D was not that great (in the UM game) and Kirk refused to unleash the Iowa pass game until he had to. So imagine, if Iowa plays better D and Kirk gives the green light to play the passing game (like he did in 2017) then we might get a different Iowa.

  I walked away from this game thinking worse of iowa than i did going in for sure. I didnt have a very high opinion of michigan and iowa needed cosmic level of things to go right in order to win by 1 point. Felt like Michigan killing their own drives with penalties more than iowa defense stopping them. They got the penalty to extend the final drive when it was likely over. Without the injury stopping the clock they dont have enough time to even spike the ball. Needs to be 3 seconds. If any one thing doesn&apos;t go iowas way, Michigan wins. If several dont, Michigan wins by 10+. So yeah.

From September 29, 2006 through September 29, 2026, 20 years… Iowa and Michigan played 12 times:<br><br>Iowa: 6 wins<br>Michigan: 6 wins<br>Record: 6–6<br><br>Calm down… yall aint all that. 😂<br><br>If you think this is the same Iowa offense, you have no idea what you’re looking at. Which means you probably shouldn’t be on this show.<br><br>Clearly Michigan sold out just like Iowa State did. Michigan blitz almost every single down for the entire first 3 quarters. <br><br>The fourth quarter they backed up into prevent which is why Iowa drove the ball 90 yards in under a minute.
