  I found this about the guy busted with the crack:<br><br>In May 2023, Cranston City Councilman Matthew Reilly resigned after he was found passed out in his car with a crack pipe. Police released body camera footage of the incident, which showed Reilly admitting to having a relapse after being clean for 13 years.

He just feels bad knowing he just basically ended this City Councilman&apos;s career and social standing (By the Councilman&apos;s own fault tho obviously). A councilman who&apos;s on camera with a crack pipe isn&apos;t going to be a councilman much longer, Not to mention that police bodycam footage is public thanks to the freedom of information act, so the city would never fire an officer over something like this, considering the general public can see he did his job correctly. Also, for a more straightforward answer, a City Council member can not fire a police officer. They have no direct authority over the city&apos;s police force. That authority would be held by the city&apos;s executive branch, which would be like the mayor or city manager, not the legislative branch like the City Council. Obviously the Police Chief and other people within the actual police force that are above the officer also could fire him, but not for doing his job correctly clearly.<br><br>Also, saying that we haven&apos;t seen other criminals treated like this isn&apos;t super true. I have seen plenty of compassionate cops in these types of videos, and this cop might just actually feel bad that this dude&apos;s life is now gonna take a real left turn. You also have to note that the Councilman has been calm, respectful, and doesn&apos;t need to be yelled at or anything for the situation to progress.
