  As a single person that&apos;s never been in a relationship, I learned all this from observing my parents failed marriage. I&apos;m almost 27 but I can support myself and have a rich inner life with hobbies and talents. I want someone to add, not take away from who I am which is why I&apos;ve been selective in dating.

  I like that you said marriage is not an achievement and that you don&apos;t have to get married just because you are getting older. Society tends to pressure women into marriage so that we aren&apos;t &quot;left on the shelf&quot;. Women who are not married are often made to feel like they are lacking. My mother says that it can be lonely being single but also you can be lonely in a bad marriage.

  I married respect. He met me at the precipice of a years long illness and cared for me, loved me, bathed and dressed me. As i recovered, he met an entirely different person- the real me. While it was an adjustment for us both, he took the time to learn me all over again. I think of any other man I thought I loved and &nbsp;I’m so thankful I didn’t choose passion.

  I liked this, &nbsp;one thing I would add is that you can&apos;t be a passive person in marriage. &nbsp;You have to continuously advocate for yourself and for what you want
