Not a naval example, but there's a scene in the movie 'Patton' where Gen. Patton stands in the middle of the street taking potshots at an attacking German bomber with his .380-caliber pistol. That actually happened, though in the movie it was a HE-111, in the actual even it was a Stuka. But yeah, Patton was just that crazy.

Drach, thanks so much for answering my question about the chutes on the sides of capital ships. A waste disposal chute actually makes perfect sense now that you've said it, nobody wants mashed potatoes and gravy smeared down the sides of your freshly painted ship. Most especially if your carting around the Queen like HMS Vanguard.
As for how i portray ships: I prefer to build and paint them as they appear fresh from the builders on acceptance day. A sort of builders model. With sailed vessels, i tend to step tge masts, and do some of the standing rigging, but leave off the sails and running rigging. Mainly because i have big fingers, and tying little knots, and threading blocks etc, is very frustrating.

Kind of ironically, when you described the sequence of events with the high speed boarding action between the MTB and Schnellboot, MY literal instinctive response to visualizing the event was actually a hard blink and a flat "....what?"

I would absolutely buy one of the anti-submarine hammers, possibly more than one. Would make an excellent joke gift for one of my submariner friends

The Wildcat that attacked a Betty bomber with its landing gear...succeeded. the Betty's wing broke, and it crashed into the sea.
