  I’m Christian, Orthodox Bulgarian and my father became Muslim in 2016 and became a better person and father after he stopped drinking alcohol, he was alcoholic and abusive towards my mother

  I am an ordinary Japanese person. <br>The people in this video are Japanese who converted to Islam after encountering it through study abroad or relationships with Muslim partners — a shift born from a genuine change in values. That is a deeply personal and beautiful choice. At the same time, the reality is that practicing Islam in Japan comes with significant cultural friction, and it is the converts themselves who bear that weight. <br> <br>Japan guarantees freedom of religion, and what you believe is entirely your own business. Japanese people do not interfere in others&apos; faith. However, the foundation of Japanese society rests on a worldview shaped by the long fusion of Shinto and Buddhism. Most Japanese describe themselves as &quot;non-religious,&quot; yet the influence of these two traditions runs quietly through every detail of daily life. <br> <br>For example, sake is deeply tied to Shinto ritual, making it an inevitable point of conflict for those who abstain from alcohol. The phrase &quot;Itadakimasu,&quot; said by everyone before eating, comes from a Shinto concept of humbly receiving the life of what you consume — a philosophy of reverence for all living things, animals and plants alike. Pork is no exception; it sits at the heart of Japanese food culture. Bones become broth, and the rest becomes fertilizer that nourishes Japan&apos;s vegetables. This is the Japanese view of nature itself. <br> <br>Furthermore, burial in the ground is effectively impossible in Japan. Climate, water sources, sanitation, law, and community consent — everything assumes cremation. Even Japanese Christians are cremated over 99% of the time. If ground burial is a non-negotiable requirement of your faith, the only option is to transport the body to a cemetery abroad. <br> <br>Japan also maintains a strict separation of religion and politics. For those coming from countries where the two are intertwined, this will likely come as a significant cultural shock. <br> <br>Above all, what Japanese society finds most unacceptable is causing inconvenience to others — regardless of religious motivation. Praying on public roads, loud calls to prayer, high-volume performances in shared spaces — these are genuinely unwelcome in Japan. The unspoken rule of public life here is: do not disturb the shared atmosphere. <br> <br>Christianity reached Japan some 500 years ago. Even after surviving a period of prohibition and more than a century of religious freedom, it accounts for just 1% of the population. This speaks to how deeply rooted Japanese culture is, and how difficult it is for outside religions to take hold as a way of life. <br> <br>Living in Japan as a Muslim is possible — but the cultural and institutional barriers are far greater than they may appear from the outside. That is precisely why deeply understanding Japanese culture and coming with realistic expectations matters so much.

  As a born Muslim in a Islamic country, I can not imagine how hard my other brothers and sisters are facing hardship. May Allah bless us all.

  My jaw dropped as soon as I heard the lady who married the tunisian guy spoke Arabic. Fluent Tunisian Arabic with a tinge of Japanese accent. <br><br>The 2 guys you interviewed appear very committed and represent Islam well in Japan, Alhamdulillah

  They not only found faith, but also love. Was really touched by the people who mentioned studying in Palestine and experiencing their hospitality. My father always wanted me to study at Al Azhar University. Now it&apos;s gone.😢
