  Its deeply disturbing how, in this film, to save the family the only possibility is to stop the movie, to avoid watching. The spectator has the power. You and I have the power to save them, and we don’t.

  I broke the 5th wall with rewinding the movie to the beginning and switching off the tv.

  I think that the reason the psycho getting shot is shown in its entirety unlike other violent scenes is because it wasn’t supposed to happen, and is simply an anomaly fixed by the other psycho right after.

  i think the original is better because you have never seen the actors anywhere before, which makes the whole experience so much more realistic and you really feel bad to keep watching

  I had never really thought about the fact you never even see the violence that they inflict on the family and even still one of the most brutal horror movies.

  I think what the movie is saying to the audience is “you love horror dont you? That’s why you picked this movie isn’t it? To get joy out of watching violence and suffering? I’ll give you that because I know this is what you want. Oh, do you not want it anymore? Why? If this is making you uncomfortable you can stop watching but I know you won’t. Because you’re sick.” It seems Ike it’s calling out the audience.

Cause people interpret what he said, and what the trope has come to mean, as &quot;an insignificant element introduced in the 1st act WILL have greater meaning in the 3rd.&quot; But what he actually meant was,&quot;If something doesn&apos;t have relevance to or progresses the plot, dont introduce it.&quot;<br>It was a quote about eliminating waste or unneeded padding to a story rather than building suspense or payoff.

  The deliberate hiding of the violence, to me, makes the violence so much worse, because in essence the audience needs to fill in the blanks, and really... is there anything more horrifying and anxiety inducing than our own imagination??

  I love that the blood-spattered tv is showing a nascar race specifically. Given the movie&apos;s themes, it&apos;s definitely commenting on the disturbing number of people who think crashes are a highlight of the broadcast. Chills.

  I think this is great having the VILLAIN break the fourth wall like this, especially with so much currently social media having cultivated this idea of &quot;pranks&quot; and an audience laughing even when there is no camera driving people to do horrible things to appease a fictional audience.

  you could say that The Shining also breaks the 4th wall. Jack Torrence does this by making micro eye contact with the camera multiple times. the director wanted to make it seem as if the villain (jack torrence) knew the viewer was there.
