  This song was inspired by Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto. Eric Carmen’s lawyers told him that the song was in the public domain, so he didn’t credit Rachmaninoff. But then, when the song was released internationally, he was sued by the estate of Rachmaninoff. It turns out that in Russia, the song was not yet in the public domain. As such, Carmen very gladly gave Rachmaninoff songwriting credits and paid the estate the royalties.

  Haven't heard this version for many tears, but it still sounds great almost 50 years later.  The world is a better place because of music.

  This is a fabulous song. Truly a classic. In retrospect 'All By Myself' by Eric Carmen and 'Alone Again Naturally' by Gilbert O' Sullivan, two of the more powerful songs from the years of my childhood resonate even more powerfully today. Both songs touch on similar themes of isolation, frustration, and emotional pain. However, both get there via different circumstances. In 'Alone Again Naturally', it is the sadness of losing loved ones, thus a feeling of abandonment. Whereas in 'All By Myself', it is the intense loneliness, heartbreak, and the desperate yearning for companionship. Glad that you have done a reaction to this ballad.
